I'm not sure if this is a standalone novel or not， being as it's book 12， as at least one character seems to be a new introduction。 I'm also unsure if the two main characters will be revisited as there are a few incidents left somewhat unresolved。Not to be picky， but other than the motorcycle club being made up of magical individuals， this story follows the general outline of the paranormal midlife romance - divorce out of nowhere， kid in college， woman "finding" herself， meets magical male， has I'm not sure if this is a standalone novel or not， being as it's book 12， as at least one character seems to be a new introduction。 I'm also unsure if the two main characters will be revisited as there are a few incidents left somewhat unresolved。Not to be picky， but other than the motorcycle club being made up of magical individuals， this story follows the general outline of the paranormal midlife romance - divorce out of nowhere， kid in college， woman "finding" herself， meets magical male， has mind-boggling sex with what turns out to be his/her preordained mate。 Not that I'm exactly complaining since I seem to be reading a lot of these lately but variety is the spice of life。It would have been nice to have followed up with Emma's friends。 She initially says she's going to be gone for a couple of months， yet much more time goes by without one indication that she has kept in touch with any of them。 Do they ever learn of her divorce （which filing for is only referenced in passing） and her remarriage？ A couple of questions: Emma states she can't get pregnant。 Why is that？ She's had one child and at 38 is certainly young enough to have another。 Did she have a hysterectomy？ A little clarification would be nice。How does the gang get money for gasoline， cell phone service， to pay for space at a camp， etc。？ No mention is made of working odd jobs or a billionaire's trust fund。 Even though they hunt down their meat， the fae are vegan so how do they acquire fruit and veggies？ It doesn't seem they stay in one place long enough to grow their own produce。Spoiler ahead:As Emma's ex was in trouble for gambling debts， it doesn't seem likely that he would have signed over their house to her if for no other reason than he could have sold it to pay off said debts。 OTOH， the bad guys could have gone after her for the money that its sale would generate。 Also， wouldn't Rhett have been a little perturbed by realizing that the ex had "abandoned" Emma in an altruistic gesture to keep her safe？ Maybe that would have caused her to see the ex in a better light。 。。。more

3。5 Stars Rhett and EmmaI liked this book。 I wasn’t sure going in what to expect。 The title really threw me off。 “Midlife Dragon”。 I just kept picturing and older， slower dragon。 That was not the case at all。 Yes， Rhett is “older”。 He comes from an ancient line of dragons that seem to live twice as long as other dragons。 He is one hundred years old。 Middle aged for his line。 He has been very happy with his life。 Loves his chosen family。 Loves riding his motorcycle， and ultimately loves being in 3。5 Stars Rhett and EmmaI liked this book。 I wasn’t sure going in what to expect。 The title really threw me off。 “Midlife Dragon”。 I just kept picturing and older， slower dragon。 That was not the case at all。 Yes， Rhett is “older”。 He comes from an ancient line of dragons that seem to live twice as long as other dragons。 He is one hundred years old。 Middle aged for his line。 He has been very happy with his life。 Loves his chosen family。 Loves riding his motorcycle， and ultimately loves being in his dragon form。 He has no desire to date， or spend more than a couple of nights with any one woman。 Growing up with his father taught him that it’s best to keep clear of relationships。 Emma’s life has been turned upside down。 Her son is off to college， and her husband left her on their anniversary。 So she’s decided to do something outside of her comfort zone。 Hiking the Rockies。 What she finds makes her life back in Nebraska seem like child’s play。 She is rescued from a bear by a dragon。 And surprisingly， she’s ok with that。 More curious than frightened。 Rhett is very open with Emma。 And she is very accepting of not only him， but his companions as well。 But， as comfortable as they are， they both know their time together is limited。 Neither are looking for anything long term， or permanent。 This was a relatively drama free story。 Emma was very easy going， and open to all of the new beings that she came into contact with。 You don’t have that huge break-up， to make-up scenario。 There was a lot of push and pull with Emma wanting to stay， but not wanting the commitment of another relationship so soon after her marriage came to an abrupt end。 There was a tiny blip that Emma had to navigate with her son。 It was resolved quickly and with lots of help from the Texas dragons。 This little blip felt unfinished。 Like it was just dropped in to to create drama for the sake of drama。 You’re told it’s all good， but you are left wondering what really happened？ There’s also a bit of tension within Rhett’s “family”， that adds another issue that needs resolving。 I really liked both of these characters。 I liked that Emma was a bit older （38） than most heroines。 Lots of back and forth， but eventually Emma and Rhett get on the same page， and embrace their relationship。 They do find that happy ever after。 An easy， quick read。 。。。more
